The potential for human progress is inhibited when we systematically exclude qualified people from industries, conferences, or leadership roles based on demographics rather than merit. Every brilliant mind sidelined is a solution we don't discover, an innovation we don't create, a breakthrough we don't achieve. When artificial barriers prevent the best ideas and talent from rising to the top, we're not just being unfair—we're actively limiting our collective advancement.
This is why Amanda Wick's work with Women in Crypto matters far beyond industry politics. She's not arguing for charity or quotas—she's eliminating inefficiencies in how we identify and deploy talent. And the results speak to a fundamental truth about human prosperity: when we remove artificial barriers to participation, everyone benefits from the expanded pool of contributors.
Full interview:
Amanda Wick is changing that narrative one panel at a time. As the founder of Women in Crypto, Wick has built something remarkable: a 700-member organization spanning 24 countries that's not just networking—it's actively reshaping who gets to speak, lead, and build in digital finance.
What started in October 2022 with 50 founding members has exploded into a global movement. But Wick's approach is refreshingly practical. "It's not just a networking association, it's also an advocacy group," she explains, highlighting their "Unmantle Your Panel" initiative that has secured pledges from over 100 male allies to refuse speaking on all-male panels. The results speak for themselves—conferences are actually adding women speakers, and Wick regularly gets messages from men proudly reporting they turned down "manels" until women were included.
The genius lies in the execution. Rather than just demanding change, Women in Crypto built infrastructure: a global speaker directory of 200-300 women experts, matching conferences with qualified speakers, and eliminating the tired excuse of "we couldn't find any women." As Wick puts it, "We don't just say do better—we introduce them."
But this isn't just about conference panels. Wick sees a bigger picture: crypto's potential to avoid the mistakes of traditional finance. "How do we integrate women better, faster than TradFi did, which left them behind?" she asks. The answer involves everything from professional development and PR training to job boards and strategic recruiting from traditional finance.
Her background gives her unique credibility. Starting as a federal prosecutor handling crypto money laundering cases in 2012-2013, Wick witnessed crypto's evolution from "anonymous criminal money" to transparent, trackable digital finance. "The visibility in crypto of what's dirty is incomparable compared to TradFi," she notes, recognizing early that blockchain analytics could make crypto more compliant than traditional systems.
Clip from the interview:
This technical understanding informs her advocacy. When she talks about bringing women into crypto, she's not talking about speculation—she's discussing stablecoins, real-world asset tokenization, and the infrastructure of future finance. "If you just remain an industry for crypto bros, 50% global adoption will not be the future of digital finance."
The political stakes couldn't be higher. Wick pulls no punches on policy, calling out both parties when partisan politics threatens American competitiveness. "[Had] the Dems derailed stablecoin legislation because they couldn't let Trump have a win, it would have been an absolute nightmare," she warned. Her message transcends politics: dollar dominance depends on crypto regulation, and America needs to win regardless of which party claims credit.
What makes Wick's approach powerful is its pragmatism. She's not asking for charity or quotas—she's building systems that make inclusion inevitable. From securing Binance as a sponsor to expanding beyond crypto to other industries, Women in Crypto is proving that diversity isn't just good optics—it's strategically essential.
As crypto matures from speculative playground to financial infrastructure, voices like Wick's ensure that infrastructure includes everyone. The question isn't whether women belong in crypto's future—it's whether crypto can afford to build that future without them.
