Very interesting Bob. Sounds similar to what has been happening at higher education including the Ivy Schools. A friend and I have drafted a document analyzing challenges at Yale and recommending solutions which sound very similar to the framework you discuss here. The root cause for institutional drift is, I suppose, the mental health challenges associated with social media and some of the resulting responses like aggressive wokeness

Thanks for this — and I agree there are real parallels with what’s happened in higher education, including the Ivies.

Student mental health and the pressures intensified by social media are very much part of the environment schools are operating in today. I’ve explored that side of the issue directly in a separate conversation and essay with a fellow Yale alum @Doris Iarovici and campus psychiatrist who’s worked with students for decades, because I think it deserves to be taken seriously on its own terms. What drew me to John Austin’s Framework is that it focuses on how institutions define their purpose and set norms in the face of a wide range of pressures — including student distress.

If you’re interested, the mental-health conversation is here and I think it complements this discussion well.
