Why are so many people pessimistic about the future? And does the evidence justify it?

I’m Bob Dewey. After decades in investing, I approach that question much as I would an investment: examine the assumptions, follow the evidence, and remain willing to change my mind.

My working hypothesis is that much of human progress comes from giving people the freedom and incentives to identify problems, experiment with solutions, fail or succeed, and learn from what works.

But it is a hypothesis, not a conclusion.

I explore it through AI, money, education, markets, energy, institutions, entrepreneurship, and other forces shaping our future.
